Hawthorn’s VFLW side has secured its third straight win of the season defeating Essendon by 36-points at Windy Hill on Saturday.

Thanks to a six player effort in front of goals including a three goal game from Olivia Flanagan, the Hawks were able to control the contest and come away victors.

From the first bounce Hawthorn had the majority of play, but were unable to convert with three consecutive behinds.

In true Flanagan form, the small forward exploded through the Essendon defence to kick the first goal of the game.

Next up on Hawthorn’s long list of goal kickers was Rosie Dillon, who snapped a sneaky goal out the back of a stoppage.

Essendon struggled to keep up with the Hawks, who continued to use their momentum, Flanagan again hitting the scoreboard with the help of quick hands from Phoebe McWilliams.

The Bombers were able to grab a goal just before the first break, after a free kick and 50m penalty was awarded to Sian Wilson.

The second quarter was the biggest for the Hawks with goals from Rebecca Beeson, Flanagan, McWilliams and Hawthorn debutant Jordan Membrey.

Essendon ended up winning the second half, kicking two goals to Hawthorn’s one, but the Hawks’ early lead and huge second quarter helped them get over the line and seal their win at 8.8 (56) to 3.2 (20).

The Hawks will return to their home ground next week when they face the Southern Saints, June 22nd at 11:50am.
