Box Hill lost to Casey by 11 points in its third pre-season hit-out at Casey Fields on Sunday.

In the rivals’ first meeting since last year’s grand final, the Demons were able to get one back on the reigning premiers.

The Hawks led at half-time but were unable to maintain their ascendancy as the Demons finished the game strongly.

Development coach Torin Baker has reviewed the performances of each of the AFL-listed players who took the field for Box Hill on the weekend.

Teia Miles

“We thought Milesy was probably our best player on the day. His ball use, his reading of the play and his ability to generate ball movement out of the back half for us was all excellent on the day.” TB

Changkuoth Jiath

“CJ’s contest work was pretty strong on most occasions. He was able to find a bit of the footy. He played the spare role pretty well for us in the third quarter.” TB

Jacob Koschitzke

“It was Kozzy’s first game back after a pre-season where he spent a fair bit of time in rehab. So, being able to get minutes into him was a real bonus out of the day – he played three of the four quarters.” JK

Kaiden Brand

“KB’s body work and aerial contests were what we’ve come to expect from him – they were pretty good. He is certainly someone who set us up well down back and he was really good at communicating around stoppages.” TB

Tim O’Brien

“I thought, again, his aerial work was strong. He was able to outpoint some of his Casey opponents on a couple of occasions as well as being able to intercept at times and get his hands on the ball as well. His skill execution was also sound on the day.” TB

Will Golds

“Goldsy played wing for most of the day. It’s really evident he’s got a really strong work ethic. He is able to get up and down the ground at really good levels. He’s shown some really good signs for a first year player.” TB

Ned Reeves

“Casey had a really strong ruck combination in, so it was good for Ned to get some experience against Braydon Preuss – that was really valuable for him. He continues to impress with his tackling at ground level and he is able to get his hands on the ball on quite a few occasions.” TB

Daniel Howe

“With Howey, he has come back from injury. He played half a game and he was really impressive in that half. He hit the scoreboard and he gave us good looks inside 50. He could probably do with some extra game conditioning but we were really pleased with him first up.” TB

Harry Jones

“We’re coming to expect what we get out of Jonesy, which is excellent work rate with an ability to run and cover the ground. His tackling and pressure was probably the highlight of his game.” TB

Conor Glass

“Conor Glass played a new role. He’s played mainly as a defender previously but he played as an inside mid on the weekend. While having to learn a lot quickly, the fact that he was able to cover the ground from contest to contest and outrun his opponent was a real bonus we saw in a different role for him.” TB

Marc Pittonet

“Another one of our rucks who had to come up against Casey’s strong ruck combination. He had some moments in the game where he had some excellent influence. He then copped a knock later in the game that took a bit of wind out of his sails but he came back on and was able to play out the game.” TB

Damon Greaves

“Greavesy played a combination of down back and on the wing. He looks like he is adjusting well to VFL footy. We know we’re always going to get good ball use out of him. He’s still working on his contest side of the game.” TB

Jackson Ross

“Rossy had really strong involvement across the whole day. Some of his defensive work was really strong and while he didn’t finish in front of goals as well as he would usually, he was really present in the game and his contest was at a really good level.” TB

Dylan Moore

“Coming off a plane from Adelaide as the carry over emergency, he played a bit over three quarters for us. He was initially a bit quiet but he had a very good period over the second and third quarters where he got up the ground and his ball use and speed around the contest were both really prevalent.” TB

Mitch Lewis

“I thought he was the best big man on the ground for the day. His ability to provide a contest was great and he certainly straightened us up with our entries. He also brought his teammates into the game on a consistent basis.” TB

Mat Walker

“Walks only played half a game after having a bit of a sore knee. He had some good moments before going off though and kicked a nice goal.” TB

Ollie Hanrahan

“He was probably the one guy who provided a real spark for us especially in the second quarter. He kicked a couple himself but also brought his teammates into the game with excellent hands. He was really lively around the contest.” TB
