Heading into the final round of the VFLW competition this weekend, Hawthorn’s chances of making the top six are still up in the air.

The Hawks currently sit in fifth position on the ladder with 30 points following seven wins and a draw so far this season.

Two teams are sitting hot on the Hawks’ heels on 28 points – Melbourne University and Geelong.

In Round 16 Melbourne University and Geelong are playing teams below them on the ladder and are likely to win. The Hawks face second-placed Collingwood.

Hawthorn and Collingwood met earlier in the year in Round 2 when the Magpies won comfortably by 28 points.

When they meet again on Saturday the two teams could look vastly different to their Round 2 affair.

Rebecca Beeson, Pepa Randall, Georgia Bevan, Jordan Membrey, Sarah Perkins, Jayde Van Dyk and Phoebe McWilliams are all players who missed the Round 2 game and could possibly line up for the Hawks this weekend.

For Collingwood, only 12 of the 23 players who played the Hawks in Round 2 played last weekend in Round 15.

VFLW coach Paddy Hill said quite simply that he’s just focussing on winning this Saturday.

“(We’re just focussing on) beating Collingwood and winning,” said Hill after Sunday’s game against the Southern Saints.

“We just need four more points to sow-up our finals spot and hopefully we get that next week. If not, we’ll go out fighting.”

Despite losing to the Saints on Sunday, Hill said there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

“I thought our effort was tremendous all day today.

“We came here with the right attitude, we had a game plan that they followed pretty well but unfortunately they were just better than us on the day and you cop that.”

The Southern Saints’ win on the weekend puts them at the top of the ladder heading into the final round.

Richmond, Western Bulldogs and Collingwood are the other three teams guaranteed a place in finals.
