Hawthorn’s VFLW team has faced its second loss of the season, going down to Darebin by three points on Saturday afternoon.

Despite an early lead from the Hawks, the Falcons put together a dominant final quarter to steal the win at Bill Lawry Oval.

It was a heated contest from the opening siren, with impressive defensive pressure from both sides.

Rebecca Beeson opened her side’s account, kicking the first and only goal of the opening term.

The second term saw the Falcons jump into action, as Kate Shierlaw kicked the home side’s first from a set shot 15m out. Returning Hawks player Rosie Dillon hit back quickly with a goal of her own to put the Hawks back in front.

The fiery contest continued, and a spark of momentum granted a goal to Kate O’Dea as the Falcons took the one-point lead at halftime.

Defensive pressure from both sides produced a stalemate in the third term, with neither side able to impact the scoreboard.

The stage was set for a huge final term, with both teams tied at 2.5 apiece.

Darebin made a strong start to the last, with goals to Jarvis and Guerin giving the home side its biggest lead of the match.

The Hawks attempted to mirror the pressure from their opponents, as a huge goal from Vice-Captain Tamara Luke narrowed the margin to six points.

However, it was the fast-finishing Darebin who would run away victors as the final siren sealed the score 4.5(29) to 3.7(25).

The Hawks look towards next week’s home game against the Western Bulldogs at Box Hill City Oval, on Sunday 12th of August at 2pm.
