Hawthorn speedster Jarman Impey believes the anxiety of being involved in trade talks is one of the more challenging aspects of being an AFL footballer.

Impey crossed over to the Hawks last year after four seasons and 75 games with Port Adelaide.

Speaking to TripleM Radio, the 23-year-old empathised with former teammate Chad Wingard after he navigated his way to Hawthorn in last week’s trade period.

“I’ve been in that situation before obviously and there’s a bit going on,” Impey said.

“There’s a lot of pressure. But you’ve just got to weigh up what’s best for you and your family at the end of the day.”

Having played alongside the two-time All Australian, Impey believes Wingard will be a revelation in the brown and gold.

“He’s going to bring it,” Impey remarked confidently.

“I can’t wait and I’m very excited that Chad is coming over.

“He brings a lot and I reckon he is keen to get things back on track.”

Currently on his off-season break, Impey also told of the great importance he places on work-life balance.

The defender has spent his time off holidaying in Bali, appearing on the Footy Show Player Revue as well as following one of his strongest passions by working in a car garage.

But the hard-running Hawk noted that a strict training regime was still in place with a return to preseason now less than a month away.

“You can holiday, but as long as you turn up (to the start of preseason) sharp and ready to go.

“In this industry, you’ve got your coaches and your teammates who you want to come back fit and ready.

“But also for yourself, and so that you’re giving yourself the best opportunity to play at your best.”
