"I think they've definitely loved having me in there."

Will Day is the Hawks strength and conditioning staff's new favourite project.

The lightly-built new draftee has a clear focus in his first summer in the brown and gold.

"I'm obviously trying to get a bit bigger," Day said.

"To start with my program was just lightweight and trying to get the techniques right but now we're starting to add some more weight and put a bit of size on."

The South Australian product who was claimed by the Hawks with Pick 12 in the 2019 national draft said he is enjoying the challenge of his new professional lifestyle.

"It's been a lot different to what I'm used to, the body has been working hard trying to adapt to it.

"But the Hawks staff have been pretty good with trying to manage us.

And the 18-year-old has had no shortage of support in his opening months as a Hawk.

"I was staying at Jack Gunston's and also Luke Breust's for a bit and they've been looking out for me and taking me under their wing a bit around the club.

"In the backline, Stratts has been really good, showing me the ropes with how we go about it back there.

"It's been surreal working with these guys who you've watched so much of on TV and getting advice from them."
