It's not often clubs get a chance to play each other twice in just over a week, but that's exactly what Hawthorn and St Kilda will do when they go head-to-head at Morwell Recreation Reserve on Friday afternoon.

The Saints got the better of the Hawks when they hosted the sides' opening Marsh Community Series clash at RSEA Park in Moorabbin, prevailing by 21 points.

Despite the loss, there was plenty of positives to take from the game from a Hawthorn perspective.

Tom Mitchell had a successful outing in his first match-up with an opposition side in over 18 months, while recruit Jon Patton looked ominous spearheading the Hawks in attack, finishing with three goals.

The Saints also had a number of strong performers, with forward Tim Membrey a clear best on ground with 24 disposals, 12 marks and four goals.

Friday's game marks another important opportunity for those hopeful of gaining a Round 1 call-up to solidify their case.

Hawk defenders Changkuoth Jiath and Damon Greaves were two youngsters who gave a good account of themselves in the opening game of the pre-season.

If they maintain their spot in the side, another strong performance could be telling.

Hawthorn played a fast-paced brand of football last week that heightened the side's ability to score quickly.

If this is to be a trend in 2020, Friday's game will offer the team a good chance to hone this new pace of ball movement.
