He was called upon late in the piece, but Hawthorn defender Jack Scrimshaw didn't seem fazed by the minimal preparation ahead of the side's win over Richmond on Thursday night.

Scrimshaw was a late replacement for the Hawks after small forward Paul Puopolo pulled up with a sore calf following Wednesday's training session.

But the 21-year-old seemed unperturbed and went on to play an important role in the Hawks win, collecting 18 disposals and three marks.

"It was obviously a bit different, I wasn't really expecting to play this week," Scrimshaw said. 

"But it was good to get the call-up and I really want to just cement my spot now and keep playing some good footy

Experiencing the no-crowds factor for the first time, Scrimshaw conceded it was a noticeable difference.

"I found it pretty different, I'm not used to the crowds aspect yet!

"It was really weird and a weird sort of game with shortened quarters as well."

"But knocking off a pretty good side like the Tigers was nice, especially after last week."
