Hawthorn Football Club can confirm unrestricted free agent Xavier Ellis has agreed to terms with West Coast Eagles and will leave the Hawks under free agency rules.

Hawthorn Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson wished the 25 year old well and thanked him for his time at the Club.

“Xavier has made a valuable contribution during his eight years at Hawthorn Football Club. He departs as a premiership player and we wish him well for the future,” Clarkson said.

“He has been through a couple of tough years with injury and we’re happy to see him get another opportunity and a fresh start at the Eagles,” he said.

Ellis was drafted by Hawthorn in 2005 at selection No.3, debuted Round 1, 2007 and played 86 games in the brown and gold.

He managed two games in 2013 due to a calf injury, and suffered foot, calf and knee problems in 2012, unable to make a senior appearance until Round 20.

He did enough to make the grand final side and contributed well before being subbed off in the third quarter with a calf injury.

The midfielder won Hawthorn’s Best First-Year Player award in 2007 and was a member of the Club’s 2008 premiership team.
