Hawthorn Football Club and BankVic are passionate about recognising the ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their communities. BankVic is the bank for Police, Health and Emergency Services, and will present a champion from the Emergency Services sector to be celebrated each week, with their stories to be shared via hawthornfc.com.au.

In the spotlight this week is…

Andy Walters

Andy has been volunteering with VICSES since 2003. Since then, he has volunteered at over 500 incidents, an achievement for which he received a Unit Award plaque in 2019.

He was one of the first respondents to the Waurn Ponds Tornado in May this year, and he made an enormous contribution by triaging all of the incoming jobs and allocating resources.

VICSES Media and Communications Manager Jamie Devenish - who completed the nomination - says Andy is “an outstanding quiet achiever who gives so much time to the SES and his community.”

While the rest of Victoria isolates, people like Andy remain on the frontline, keeping the community and its residents safe.

Thanks for all that you do, Andy.
