Head of coaching and development, Chris Fagan assesses the 2010 season of every player.

Max Bailey

He is ready to go for pre-season. He possibly could have played toward the end of last season, but we decided to give him maximum time to heal. We're hopeful he will get through a full pre-season and will become an important player for us.

Chance Bateman
He's getting up there in years now, but he's lost nothing in terms of his tank. Probably, by his own standards, he had an average year and he'll look to improve on his consistency next season.

Grant Birchall
He had a solid season. We'll look for a strong pre-season from him to take his game to another level. He's been able to play at a pretty good standard now for three or four years, but can he take that next step to become one of the premier rebound defenders in the AFL? That's his challenge.

Luke Breust
He's a very hard-working young player who has improved a lot. He's an exciting small forward who played some good games at VFL level this year. We expect him to continue to improve and challenge for a regular senior spot next year.

Shaun Burgoyne
He's been a very good acquisition. Early in the year he had injury issues, but he improved as each week went by. He'll do a full pre-season and we expect him to be up and running from the word go.

Taylor Duryea
He's learned a lot about what's required to play at the level. He can find the footy and kick the miraculous goal; he's got some tricks. With another pre-season, he'll challenge for a senior spot.

Xavier Ellis
He had some really outstanding games, but he's probably looking to step up again. He'd feel that while he's been a solid performer, he hasn't reached the standard that he's capable of, so he'll push himself really hard over pre-season.

Lance Franklin
He had a really strong season. To finish runner-up in the best and fairest despite missing some games is a fair effort. What Lance will be doing is trying to develop his game to the point where he is not only an attacking weapon himself, but make the blokes around him better players too.

Josh Gibson
He's been a terrific recruit. He missed time after surgery on his hamstring, but when he returned he had a real impact on our back line. He'll do a full pre-season after being a bit modified last year.

Stephen Gilham
He is a really steady, consistent performer. He took on and beat some of the better forwards in the game. He's a really calming influence in our defence. We'll expect that he'll do what he always does in pre-season and that's set himself to be in the best possible condition for next year.

Sam Grimley
He's still learning. His biggest challenge over the next 12 months is to add bulk and strength. He's athletic and tall, but still a bit skinny. If he can become a regular senior player at Box Hill next year then that will be good progress. He'll take time, but he's got good character and he's determined.

Brent Guerra
He was in career-best form in the first half of the season. He prepared himself well last year and will look to do the same again. He's a wonderful kick and a very important part of our defensive unit.

Luke Hodge
He had a terrific year, winning our best and fairest. He's the captain of our club and knowing the competitive beast he is, he'll be hell bent on making sure he leads a team that has on-field success.

Rick Ladson
He's had a couple of years where injury has really hampered his progress. His pre-season will be a little bit modified after post-season surgery. If we can get Rick back to his best form, then he'll be an important part of our team because he's such a good ball user. He'll keep working really hard.

Jordan Lewis
He was a bit inconsistent early in 2010, but his form really picked up from about round 10 and he was one of our really consistent players. He improved his versatility by doing a couple of defensive forward roles and kicking a few goals as well.

Jordan Lisle
He is an up and coming young forward. His first year at the club was a bit inconsistent at Box Hill but this season he stepped up to be their most consistent tall forward. He's improved his fitness and his body shape. We'd like to think he'll be capable of playing some senior games next year.

Luke Lowden
He was still at school in his first year, so he barely played a game. This year he had some osteitis pubis-type issues, but he was able to get himself right to play in the second half of the season and acquitted himself very well. We have high hopes for him.

Riley Milne
Milne improved his consistency as a player in 2010. He's built up his upper body, he played some very good footy at Box Hill and was excellent in their preliminary final. He'll just keep working on his strength and fitness and we're confident he'll take another step up next year.

Sam Mitchell
He's one of the most professional players you'll meet. He played some excellent football again in 2010 and was influential in many of our victories. He selflessly handed over the captaincy to Luke Hodge which was a fantastic gesture, but he'll still influence the team strongly with his leadership.

Jarryd Morton
It was an inconsistent year for him, but he finished it off well at VFL level. He was among Box Hill's best six or seven times toward year's end and hopefully he can carry that through into next year.

Tom Murphy
Tom probably had his best year at the club. He started well, had a bit of a rough patch and went back to the VFL but when he came back he did a terrific job just about every week. Tom has an outstanding attitude to his football and he'll be looking to improve even further.

Michael Osborne
He probably had what he would describe himself as an inconsistent year. At his best he is a really influential player for us, so his biggest challenge is to find that level on a consistent basis. When he's up and going usually we're playing well. He's a bit of a barometer for our team.

Brent Renouf
He really shouldered the ruck for us and, in a sense I think it was good for his development. He had to get out there and do it for us and I felt he was our most improved player of the season. He's still young in ruck terms and we just expect he'll continue to develop further.

Cyril Rioli
He improved his football again this year. His tackling and defensive pressure was always outstanding, but what he added in 2010 was the ability to get into the midfield and get more of the ball. He'll continue to build his fitness base and his strength so he has the ability to play midfield for longer.

Jarryd Roughead
He was a bit of a shining light when we weren't going well. Some thought that he was out of form in the second half of the year, but it was probably more that his goalkicking accuracy eluded him a bit. He was getting plenty of opportunities, I think he had around 100 shots on goal, and if his accuracy had been a bit better perhaps the perception would have been a bit different. He acknowledges that he needs to improve his goalkicking and he'll keep working on that.

Shane Savage
He just finished his second season and is now a very accomplished VFL player. He gained confidence to back his pace and kicking. We expect that he'll push strongly for a senior spot in 2011.

Ryan Schoenmakers
We asked him to play as a key back, a big ask for a second-year player. It takes time to develop the ability to play consistently well in the back half at AFL level. His experience of the past two seasons will stand him in good stead. He's a quality young man and will go from strength to strength.

Brad Sewell
His form early in the year was a bit up and down, but he developed a fair bit of consistency in the second half of the year. He was a bit down on his 2007-2008 efforts, but he's fit and well now and we'll expect that he'll get back to his best football next year.

Liam Shiels
He's got a big tank and he's a very determined young man. He'll benefit from the senior experience he's had over the last two years. Was a bit injured early but finished the year as one of Box Hill's better players. We expect him to become a very good AFL midfielder.

Will Sierakowski
He's shown steady improvement over the two years he's been at the club. He became a very good VFL player, so we're encouraged by his improvement. He's got work to do, but he's learned to play with more intensity and can read the play better. He's come from a fair way back as a NSW rookie, but it's a credit to him that he's been able to hold his spot on the list.

Ben Stratton
He had an outstanding year. He played on some of the best forwards in the AFL and beat them or broke even. He has tremendous courage in the air and good closing speed. It was a good first year and if he continues to work hard, he'll become one of the really good medium defenders in the AFL.

Matt Suckling
He's a magnificent kick and a good decision maker in congested situations. He dealt with a lot of injuries in his first two years at the club, but what he has been able to do over the last couple of years is develop some continuity in his training. He knows how to manage his body now, so we think he can challenge for a spot in the AFL side regularly.

Travis Tuck
We're hoping he'll be able to have a great pre-season and be picked up as a rookie. The ball is in his court and he's made some really good progress. He's in a good place at the moment and he's been supported by the footy club and will continue to be.

Brendan Whitecross
He has played a few games now and that will hold him in good stead next year. He played some outstanding VFL footy last year and showed some good signs in the AFL. Once he develops the confidence to know that he belongs at the level then he'll become a very solid performer. He's still young so that belief will grow and we're hopeful he can have an impact next year.

Jordan Williams
He's learned a lot in his first year particularly regarding preparation. He's established himself as one of our better endurance players. Played some good games at VFL level and will work on consistency.

Clinton Young
It was good to get him back into our team. His last two years have been interrupted by injury, but he will be able to do his first full pre-season for about three years. We started to see more of his trademark run and long kicking late last year.
