James Sicily has received the nod from fans as Hawthorn’s Round 8 MVP, presented by United Petroleum.

Sicily was impressive in Hawthorn’s loss to the Swans, leading the game with seven marks, including three contested. He also finished with a goal, 23 disposals and 433 metres gained.

The defender has been among the Hawks’ most consistent performers in 2020, averaging 19 disposals, six marks and six rebound 50s per game - a solid return particularly given the shortened quarters.

This is Sicily’s second MVP nod for the season, having been recognised for his career-high 14 marks against Collingwood in Round 6.

He wasn’t the only Hawk who left it all out on the SCG turf on Saturday; Jaeger O’Meara (nine clearances, 653 metres gained) and Liam Shiels (five clearances, 547 metres gained) both performed admirably.

However, it wasn’t enough to get their team over the line; the Hawks eventually succumbed to a seven-point defeat and cemented their Sydney hub win-loss tally at 0-4.

With a new home base and three opportunities to make amends, Hawthorn will be eager for a better return in Perth.
