Captain Ben Stratton will play his 200th game when the Hawks run out against Port Adelaide this Saturday.

It has been a jam-packed journey since Stratton joined the Hawks in 2009 - one that has encompassed three premierships, elevation into the leadership group, and a now two-year tenure at the helm.

The skipper reflected on his 199-game journey during Thursday's press conference.

"(You get) a little bit of time to reflect in the hub, and I am proud of myself.

"But you don't do it by yourself, playing 200 games and 10+ years, so I have to thank everyone who I've crossed paths with along the journey, and all the boys as well."

"It's a nice achievement I'll look back on at the end of my career."

Stratton was drafted with Pick 46 in the 2009 National Draft - a selection that is now considered a draft steal thanks to his reliability and dominance in Hawthorn's back half over the last decade.

He quickly made his presence felt, playing 21 of a possible 23 games in his debut season.

He was a key contributor in the three-peat, playing a pivotal role in the back six that regularly nullified their opponents.

In early 2017, he received the backing of his club and teammates to take over the captaincy, accepting the reigns from good friend Jarryd Roughead.

While the captaincy chapter has been full of both highs and lows, Stratton is grateful the lessons the obstacles have taught him.

"It's a big challenge that I set myself to be the best leader I could," he said.

"I've learned so much over the last couple of years, and I'm just trying to keep on learning, as a person and as a leader, and use the great people I've got around me at Hawthorn."
