Ricky Henderson has been ruled out for the remainder of season 2020, with the wingman set for surgery on his knee.

Henderson tore his meniscus in Round 7 and returned to Melbourne shortly after to complete his rehab.

According to GM-Football Graham Wright, the injury hasn’t repaired itself as well as anticipated, so surgery is the next step.

“We initially took a cautious approach, in hopes that Ricky’s meniscus would heal without having surgery,” Wright said.

“Unfortunately it’s not quite there, so he’ll have surgery next week.

“This obviously rules him out for the rest of the year which is disappointing for both Ricky and the club, but we’ll continue supporting him throughout his recovery.”

Prior to the injury, Henderson was enjoying a consistent season, playing in all seven rounds.

At age 31, Henderson found career-best form that saw him finish runner-up in Hawthorn’s best and fairest count of 2019.
