Two young Hawks have received a nod in the 2020 22under22 40-man squad, released today.

Reigning Peter Crimmins Medallist James Worpel has been named among the midfielders, while emerging young star Will Day is among the top defenders in the league aged 22 or under.

It is Worpel's second consecutive year being named in the squad, having earned his spot on the interchange following a fan vote in 2019.

The announcement comes off the back of an impressive string of games for both young Hawks; James Worpel has averaged 19 disposals and six tackles a game in the reduced-time format, while Day has burst onto the scene and become one of Hawthorn's most impenetrable defenders.

The AFL Players Board has established the 40-man group, with the final team of 22 to be decided by fans.

Gold Coast has the largest representation in the squad with eight Suns named, while Fremantle has four.
