Sam Mitchell has reviewed the performances of the Hawks reserves players who partook in a unique scratch match on Sunday afternoon.

With the VFL competition put on pause due to the state's lockdown restrictions, the club made do by creating a scrimmage match involving players from Hawthorn, Melbourne and Collingwood.

Mitchell led a side of 15 Hawthorn-listed players plus three Collingwood-listed players against a side which included a mixture of Melbourne and Collingwood players.

Mason Cox, Callum Brown and Mark Keane were the Magpie players who pulled on the brown and gold on the day.

The Hawks were ultimately victorious on the day.

VFL, VFLW fixture details released following eased restrictions

Kyle Hartigan

"Kyle was eligible to play, despite being suspended at the moment, given it was a scrimmage match. It was good to have some leadership at the back end with him. He played mostly on Ben Brown and did a strong job, keeping him to just one goal. His leadership and enthusiasm was contagious for our young players."

Damon Greaves

"Damon was solid and dependable as per usual, finding the ball and using it well. He also shut down his opponents throughout the day."

Michael Hartley

"Harts used the ball well and played a strong defensive game. His defend-first mentality was strong in this game."

Denver Grainger-Barras

"It was great to have Denver back for his first game back from injury. His timing early in the game was scratchy, but as the game went on he improved to be a solid contributor - particularly in the second half."

Connor Downie

"Connor started slowly but his second half was very strong, playing his best half of footy for the last five or six weeks. His ability to find the ball and use it led to multiple scoring opportunities."

Lachlan Bramble

"On the other wing to Connor, Lachlan didn't find as much of the ball but his polish and drive meant he would have just about led the way for us for score involvements. His poise on the ball going forward was very strong."

Conor Nash

"Conor played through the midfield and forward. He was a solid contributor and played well."

Finn Maginness

"Finn played a more balanced role this week, with no tagging responsibilities. He found the game a bit difficult but he did get better as the game progressed."

Oliver Hanrahan

"He played through the midfield and forward. He kicked a very nice goal and did some other nice things. He did fade in and out of the game a bit though."

Keegan Brooksby

"He was very strong in the ruck against Majak Daw, with his around the ground presence being especially notable. His leadership with our young players is very important."

Harry Pepper

"Pepper played in the back half and had some very good moments, particularly with his clean hands from ground level."

Emerson Jeka

"Emerson found a fair bit of the footy but he didn't make the most of his opportunities in front of goal unfortunately. His selfless attitude around goals was pleasing, giving a couple of Joe the Gooses over the top to his teammates."

Jackson Callow

"Jackson played his first game for the club since being drafted. He was pleasing, taking some good, strong contested marks. His goalkicking continues to be a work in progress but he certainly looked capable at the level."

Jack Saunders

"Mighty Mouse's workrate caused the opposition trouble. He was able to finish with a couple of goals and had some exposure further up the ground on the wing where he looked solid."

James Cousins

"Cousins was the highest possession winner on the ground. He used the ball well, particularly early. He played through the middle as well as forward. He was good."
