Hawthorn has re-signed rookie Ned Long on a one-year extension with the club.

Long joined the Hawks in November last year after the club selected him with Pick 5 in the 2021 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

While he is yet to make his debut in the senior side, the 19-year-old has made an early impression at Box Hill this year.

Averaging 16 disposals and nine tackles across the opening three games of the season, the 192cm Long has shown some exciting signs playing through the midfield with his endurance and competitive contest work in and around the ball.

Hawthorn National List & Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said he was pleased to lock Long in for another year.

"Since arriving at the club late last year, Ned has shown nothing but hard work and dedication," McKenzie said.

"Ned plays with high energy and attack which we love to see, and potentially has the capability to play a few different roles in the future.

“Ned is obviously still developing, but we’re really pleased with the steps he has taken since joining the club."
