The AFL has confirmed the fixture for its inaugural Gather Round next year, with Hawthorn securing a Sunday time slot as part of the exciting new concept.

The Hawks are set to take on Greater Western Sydney at Norwood Oval on Sunday 16 April at 3.20pm (2.50pm ACST), with the match to be televised on Channel 7.

It comes after the AFL announced last month that South Australia secured the rights to host the entire additional round of football, which has been dubbed the AFL’s ‘national festival of football’.

Gather Round will see all nine matches played within the state, with games scheduled across four days from Thursday 13 April to Sunday 16 April, coinciding with school holidays.

Matches will be held at several venues – with Adelaide Oval as the primary base. Entry to every game will be free for all club and AFL members.

The round extends the number of home and away season games each AFL side will play to 23, up from the 22 games that teams have played each year since 1970.

Further home and away match-ups for 2023 are set to be revealed in the coming days at hawthornfc.com.au.
