Hawthorn has included talented ruck Lucy Wales in its extended squad ahead of Sunday's battle with the Western Bulldogs at Mars Stadium, Ballarat.

Wales missed Round 1 with a bone stress injury but is in line to return for Sunday's clash to partner with Tamara Luke in the ruck.

Tenacious midfielder Tamara Smith makes way for the Round 2 battle due to a one-match suspension.

The extended squad will be narrowed down to 21 names - plus three emergencies - tomorrow.

The Hawks will be aiming to bounce back from a 19-point loss against Essendon in Round 1 and secure their first win of the season.

Sunday's match will also mark the first time Hawthorn has played in Ballarat, with Ballarat product and star Hawks midfielder Kaitlyn Ashmore also set to finally play her first AFLW game in her hometown during her eighth season in the competition.

Hawthorn will reveal its Round 2 team on Friday at 5pm on hawthornfc.com.au and across Facebook, X, Threads and Instagram
