Hawthorn will get is first taste of opposition ahead of the 2024 season when it takes on the Western Bulldogs in a match simulation at Whitten Oval on Friday.

There will be plenty of new talent for fans to observe across Friday’s match which will consist of a four-quarter AFL game, followed by a four-quarter VFL game.

The AFL game will kick off from 11am, with the Hawks naming a 31-player squad to take part.

James Sicily will lead his team out for the first time in 2024 as he embarks on his second year as skipper, joined by the likes of Jack Scrimshaw, Jarman Impey and Josh Weddle down back, while midfielders including Jai Newcombe and Conor Nash will lead the charge in the engine room.

There will be plenty of buzz in the forward half with lively draftee Nick Watson set to partake in his first pre-season hit-out, as are recruits Jack Ginnivan and Mabior Chol.
