Box Hill’s unbeaten start to the VFLW season came to an end on Saturday, falling to North Melbourne by 34 points at Arden Street Oval.

The contest was evenly poised at quarter time, with both sides locked at 2.1 apiece. Box Hill started brightly, matching North Melbourne’s intensity and applying early scoreboard pressure through goals to Stasia Stevenson and Jess Matin.

However, from the second quarter onward, North Melbourne gradually took control. North capitalised on clean ball movement and repeat inside 50s, pulling ahead by 14 points at half time and extending their lead to 34 at the final siren. Despite Box Hill’s best efforts, North’s defensive structure proved difficult to break through.

Stasia Stevenson continued her strong form, notching 16 disposals and a goal in a standout individual display. Paige Price led the disposal count for the Hawks with 17, while Isla Baldwin (15), Rosie Dillon and Nat Exon (14 each) worked tirelessly around the contest.

Gabby Collingwood and Miz Kendall added majors in the second half, but opportunities were limited against a disciplined North Melbourne backline. The Hawks’ midfield battled hard but struggled to generate consistent forward momentum after quarter time.

The loss brings Box Hill’s record to 3–1, still well placed in the early stages of the season. They’ll look to bounce back next week with renewed intensity and return to the winners’ list. Box Hill will take on Collingwood at Victoria Park on Saturday May 17 from 2.05pm.
