The Box Hill Hawks VFLW side delivered a dominant performance in the opening match of Sunday’s double-header.

The Hawks burst out of the blocks early, maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the game and securing a commanding 61-point victory in a highly anticipated 2nd vs 3rd clash at Box Hill City Oval. The final score was 11.8 (74) to 1.7 (13).

The match appeared to be in the Hawks’ control from the outset, as they showcased slick ball movement and some of their most elite skills of the season. Box Hill led at every break, with their most dominant quarter coming in the third, where they piled on 4 goals and 4 behinds while keeping the Zebras scoreless. By the end of the quarter, the Hawks held a commanding 8.8 (56) to 0.5 (5) lead, effectively putting the game out of reach.

In what was an outstanding team performance, the Hawks dominated the stats sheet, with seven of the top ten disposal-getters on the day wearing brown and gold. Matilda Van Berkel led the way with 23 disposals, closely followed by Amelie Prosser-Shaw with 20. The goal-scoring was evenly spread, with Emma Stilve, Gabby Collingwood, and Isla Baldwin each contributing two goals.

The Hawks’ win saw them reclaim second place on the ladder, moving up from third. They’ll be back in action on Saturday, July 12, taking on the Essendon Bombers at home at Box Hill City Oval. It’s their final home game of the year, so make sure to get down there and show your support for the girls!
