The Box Hill Hawks VFLW side have slipped a spot on the ladder after losing to a determined Bombers outfit pushing for a finals berth.

The Bombers were dominant all afternoon, maintaining a strong lead throughout the match and securing a 22-point victory at Box Hill City Oval. The final score was 5.3 (33) to 8.7 (55).

The Bombers took control from the opening bounce, with three of their players topping the stats sheet for disposals. However, as we’ve seen throughout the season, the Hawks refused to go down without a fight. They mounted a strong final-quarter push, kicking two goals and giving the Bombers a late scare. But the visitors held their nerve, responding with a goal of their own to seal the win.

While it wasn’t the Hawks’ strongest day, there were still some standout individual performances. Amelie Prosser-Shaw gathered 17 disposals in a solid showing, while debutant Serena Gibbs made an immediate impact by kicking the Hawks’ first goal—mirroring Emma Juneja’s debut effort against the Pies. Jess Matin also impressed, finishing with 15 disposals and a goal of her own.

Unfortunately, the Hawks’ loss sees them slip to third on the ladder. They’ll be back in action on Sunday, July 20th, when they take on Williamstown at DSV Stadium. If you can, head down and show your support, every bit counts as the girls look to bounce back on the road.
