Hawthorn Football Club and Box Hill Institute (BHI) are delighted to announce that the Hawthorn College of Sport will soon be available in Launceston.
This expansion builds on this year’s hugely successful Melbourne intake, offering the same opportunities to students across the Tasman.
Tasmanians wanting to pursue a career in the sporting industry will now have the opportunity to study this dual diploma program, packaging the Diploma of Sport (SIS50321) and the Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) with a brown and gold twist.

As well as 100 hours of work immersion, the course includes two three-day study trips to Melbourne, so every student can experience Hawthorn’s world-class Kennedy Community Centre and matches at Melbourne’s largest stadiums.
As has been the case in Melbourne, students from Launceston will have the opportunity to hear from esteemed Hawthorn guest speakers throughout their learning, and network with staff, players and coaches.
The course itself will be delivered through a hybrid learning model, with students engaging in face-to-face learning at the popular UTAS Stadium as well as online.
To ensure a unique experience for students, the first intake has 30 places available and commences in February 2026.
Hawthorn Head of Tasmanian Operations David Cox said:
“Launceston has been our home away from home since 2001, and we have experienced incredible on and off- field success during our time here.
“Alongside studying the dual diploma, the Hawthorn College of Sport is delighted to offer students unmatched experiences including hearing from Hawthorn guest speakers, 100 hours of engaging work immersion, study trips to Melbourne and of course, the opportunity to experience our transformational Kennedy Community Centre and even the MCG on a match day.
"Broadening Hawthorn and Box Hill Institute’s hugely successful Hawthorn College of Sport offering to Launceston will enable us to foster the next generation of Hawthorn people, as well as promote an engaging and beneficial learning environment for students who want to pursue a career in the sporting industry.
“Over this period we’ve had a huge number of requests from locals seeking learning opportunities with the Hawks and up until now we haven’t had a formal channel to deliver on the demand.
“Combining our 100-year history in the game and 25 years in Tasmania, with Box Hill Institute's reputation of over 100 years delivering education and training, offers students the unique experience to be able to learn from two seasoned industry experts.”
Box Hill Institute CEO Grant Radford said:
