Hawthorn has welcomed Niamh Martin on the final day of the 2025 AFLW Trade Period after reaching a deal with North Melbourne.

Hawthorn receives Martin in exchange for two future third-round picks (2026), tied to the Sydney Swans and Port Adelaide.

Martin will don the brown and gold following 16 games over two seasons with North Melbourne, including the 2023 grand final.

The 24-year-old made the transition to Aussie rules after an impressive stint with Gaelic football side, Tipperary over 2022 and the beginning of 2023.

2025 saw Martin return to Ireland to continue her studies, with plans to return to Australia in 2026 to resume her AFLW career.

Hawthorn General Manager of AFLW Keegan Brooksby said Martin is an exciting addition to the list.

“We’re stoked to welcome Niamh to Hawthorn and fulfil her desire to play in the brown and gold,” Brooksby said.

“She comes well-equipped in knowledge and professionalism, having spent two years in a high-performing environment, as well as her pace and agility, which pose a real strength to our program.

“We see her fitting in well with our group and we’re excited to see what she can achieve at Hawthorn.”
