Josh Weddle has committed his future to Hawthorn, putting pen to paper on a long-term, four-year extension to keep him in the brown and gold until at least the end of 2030.
The star young gun has quickly become one of the most eye-catching players in the league through his 60 career games to date, and a fan favourite among the brown and gold faithful.
In recent weeks, the Club has been working collaboratively with Weddle's manager, Dylan Hodge, to lock away the 21-year-old for the long term.
Starting his journey in defence, the unique 191cm athlete continues to exemplify his growing versatility right across the field, with explosive speed, power and aerial prowess.
Gifted with a special sense of game-breaking flair and toughness, Weddle has shown an ability to live up to the lofty standards of the Hawthorn showmen who have carried the #23 guernsey before him.
Drafted with Pick 18 in 2022, Weddle broke through for his debut in Round 7 of the following season, earning a Rising Star nomination and claiming Hawthorn’s Most Promising Player in his maiden campaign.
Last season, he averaged 16.1 disposals, 4.9 marks and 320 metres-gained per game.
Hawthorn Executive General Manager of Football Rob McCartney said:
“We are delighted that Josh has committed his future to Hawthorn, he is an important part of what we are aspiring to achieve, and we are extremely confident that his best is yet to come.
“In the early years of his career, Josh has shown a capacity to produce some special moments that can change a game or lift his teammates back into the contest.
“While his explosive running power has been well documented, the evolution of Josh’s game as a defender to playing on the wing, in the ruck and even up forward, highlights his versatility and selflessness to play any role required to make us better.
“Josh continues to be one of the hardest-working players at our Club who pushes his peers and drives the standards required to be at Hawthorn and we can’t wait to see what the future holds."
