Hawthorn High Performance Manager has confirmed Matt LeRay is closing in on a return from his ankle injury.
At the same time, Will Day has commenced non-contact skills training as he continues to make strides in his recovery from shoulder surgery.
Burge also provided updates on Henry Hustwaite and James Blanck in this week’s injury update, ahead of the Club’s first AFL bye and second VFL game of the year.
Matt LeRay (Ankle) - Test
“Yeah, look, he was close last week. He trained in our main session last week, but we just weren't completely satisfied with his function. He's had a number of sessions since then. He's available to play this week.”
Henry Hustwaite (Ankle) - 1-2 weeks
“He's progressing. He's not available this week, and he'd be more likely to be a test for next week. We've got him back into straight-line running. We're looking for that to progress significantly over the next two sessions at the end of the week and over the weekend, and then, there's a long week next week into the VFL game, which is the following Sunday. So we'll get in a number of sessions, and we'll be able to make an assessment more later next week on his availability.”

Will Day (Shoulder) - 2 months
“Will Day has started doing some non-contact training with the main group, which is fantastic. So at this stage, we're doing that a couple of times a week. We're going to get a number of weeks of non-contact training and, additionally, conditioning on the back of those sessions as well. He’s certainly going to get a long lead-in, and we'll be more specific with his return to play timeline over the next couple of weeks once we've got some more information and we've connected back with the surgeon, those sorts of things. But, yeah, so far so good.”
James Blanck (Groin) - TBC
“He’s progressing really well. He's resumed some training with the main group as well this week. So we need to put together a number of sessions back-to-back and progress his training minutes before we come back with a more exact timeline of a return to play.”
