Hawthorn will blood its first AFL debutant for the season on Easter Monday, with young midfielder Jack Dalton set to play his first game.

Dalton, who celebrated his 19th birthday on Easter Sunday, was told the news in front of teammates ahead of the blockbuster clash against the Cats at the MCG tomorrow.

The East Malvern product joined the Hawks with Pick 34 in last year’s National Draft.\

A prolific ball-winner at junior level, Dalton beat all comers in the 2km time trial at the most recent draft combine, stopping the clock at 5.53min.

In his debut game at VFL level just a few weeks ago, Dalton starred in a big Box Hill win, collecting 27 disposals, taking seven marks and booting one goal.

Executive General Manager of Football Rob McCartney was delighted to see Dalton receive his debut news.

“For Jack to realise his AFL dream and don the brown and gold guernsey for the first time on Easter Monday will be a special moment,” McCartney said.

“Since being drafted just a few months ago, Jack has shown a real appetite for hard work and has impressed with his strong running power and desire to compete.

“We’re delighted to see Jack earn his first opportunity at AFL level and are confident he can play his role on Easter Monday.”
