Hawks Weekly Wrap

Catch up on how all of the Hawks teams performed over the past week...

AFL

Hawthorn’s AFL side bounced back from a disappointing loss the previous week to beat the GWS Giants by 33 points at the MCG on Sunday.

Ricky Henderson was a major contributor with 36 disposals and James Frawley was excellent in his returning game from injury keeping the competition’s leading goal kicker Jeremy Cameron to just 11 disposals and four behinds.

The win puts the Hawks in ninth position on the ladder and will give the side confidence heading into their Round 9 match against Richmond.

VFL

The Box Hill Hawks played in a thrilling draw against Footscray at the MCG on Sunday.

The match was played as a curtain raiser to Hawthorn’s AFL game and featured former AFL captain Jarrad Roughead who kicked a game high five goals.

There were a number of lead changes throughout the game and despite Hawks having a 10-point lead at three quarter time, the Bulldogs fought back to make it a draw when the final siren sounded.

Ladder position: 4th

Hawthorn’s VFLW side began its 2019 campaign with a tough Round 1 match against the Northern Territory Thunder on Sunday.

The Thunder had a number of Adelaide AFLW players in its line-up including three-time All Australian Chelsea Randall, Angela Foley and Ailish Considine.

The Hawks were competitive throughout but went down in the end by 22 points.
