Hawthorn’s VFLW team has gone down to Collingwood by 26 points, in its second loss of the season at Victoria Park on Saturday.

Despite winning the second half of the game, it was a goalless second quarter for the Hawks that ultimately saw Collingwood come out winners.

The Pies had the accuracy early in the opening term, kicking three goals from three inside 50’s. Chantella Perera started the Hawks off with their first major of the game. Perera also turned out to be a vital player down back on the day, stopping multiple forward entries with strong contested marks.

The second quarter was a tough one for the Hawks, with Collingwood keeping them goalless whilst racking up three goals. This stretched the Pies lead out to 28 points at the major break, leaving Hawthorn with a big fight ahead of them.

Hawthorn were able to fight their way back into the contest in the second half, keeping Collingwood to just two goals for the rest of the game. A late surge from the Hawks, with Emily Gilder hitting the scoreboard twice in the last quarter, wasn’t enough to close the large margin set at half time, leaving the Pies the victors at 8.6 (54) to 4.2 (26).

Coach Paddy Hill says despite the loss, there were a lot of positives to take away from the game.

“I was really proud of the girls in the second half. The response was really good and in little patches here and there, I think we were the better team.

“It’s also been really good for the bottom of our list to get some opportunities and test to see where they're at.”

Hawthorn will be looking to get its first win of the season against Darebin at the Bill Lawry Oval, 12:00pm, on Saturday the 25th of May.
