With the injury to Grant Birchall on the weekend, Hawthorn will be forced to make at least one change to its Round 20 line-up.

There is great depth in this position that the Hawks selection committee will have to choose from as they look to replace the veteran defender ahead of this Friday night’s clash with GWS.

Changkuoth Jiath is yet to make his debut after almost two years on the Hawks list, but his form this season has seen him regularly knocking on the door of a senior call-up.

Jiath’s strengths are in his versatility and his running power and would appear an able replacement for Birchall.

Birchall’s four-time premiership teammate Jarryd Roughead spent time in defence for Box Hill last week, gathering 16 disposals and four rebound 50s.

Trio of youngsters Jack Scrimshaw, Dylan Moore and Harry Morrison also made successful returns from their stints on the sidelines but may need further time at VFL level before being considered for senior selection.
