Hawthorn will return to Moorabbin Oval for the first time in nearly 28 years when it kicks off its 2020 pre-season campaign.

St Kilda will host Hawthorn in the opening match of the Marsh Community Series at its original home at RSEA Park on February 20.

The Hawks’ last visit to the venue was Round 4 1992 when the Saints had their measure by 10 points.

It was the 21st and final time the two sides played a home and away game at the ground that was first used in 1965.

Historically the Hawks form at Moorabbin proved ‘streaky’, winning 10 of its 11 outings there between 1975 and 1989 but only one of its other 10 games outside of that period.

Moorabbin is one of three new suburbs named for Marsh Community Series games next year, with Lathlain in Western Australia and the South Australian town of Whyalla to also host their first matches.

Each side will play two matches across three weekends in the non-competitive Marsh Community Series format, which was first brought in in 2014.
