Hawthorn midfielder Will Day is set to play his first AFL game in 300 days after being selected in Sam Mitchell’s side to face St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night.

The 24-year-old got through last week’s VFL win over Williamstown unscathed and has been picked for his first AFL match of the year, following a full recovery from his shoulder reconstruction in January.

He joins star forward Jack Gunston in returning to the Hawks’ line-up on Thursday.

The 34-year-old has missed Hawthorn’s past two matches against Melbourne and Adelaide due to a foot injury.

Finn Maginness and Bodie Ryan have been omitted for the Round 12 game.

Hawthorn and St Kilda will face off for the Blue Ribbon Cup on Thursday night, honouring the courage and sacrifice of the courage and sacrifice of all Victorian police officers, particularly those who have fallen in the line of duty.

At the conclusion of the game, players from the winning team will receive commemorative Blue Ribbon medals, while the best player from each side will be awarded the Silk-Miller Memorial Medal.
