Electric young forward Matt Hill will make his AFL debut this Saturday afternoon when Hawthorn hosts Melbourne in Launceston.
The 22-year-old Rugby League convert joined the Hawks as a Category B rookie at the end of 2024 after a stint with the Melbourne Storm Academy and its First Nations Pathways Program.
Originally from Katherine in the Northern Territory, the Ballardong, Wardandi, Gajerrong, and Bunuba man also spent time in the Brisbane Broncos' development squad.
Despite Hill’s cross-code detour, his return to Aussie Rules football was a natural one, given he played the sport for several seasons as a teenager, including being invited to train with the Gold Coast SUNS Academy at the age of 15.
The 187cm speedster has produced several moments of brilliance during his development at VFL level to date, booting 28 goals across 30 games.
His AFL call-up comes off the back of an impressive performance for Box Hill just last week, where he booted three goals, laid eight tackles and collected 10 disposals.
