In-demand forward Mitch Lewis has turned his back on free agency to recommit to Hawthorn on a new long-term deal.
 
The four-year extension locks away Lewis at the Hawks until at least the end of 2030.
 
Fresh from a five-goal haul just days ago, the 27-year-old is enjoying a career-best year in 2026, having been held goalless just twice in his 18 appearances to date.

 
Approaching 100 career games, the 199cm big man has been forced to overcome his fair share of adversity across his 10-year journey since being selected with the 76th pick in the 2016 National Draft.
 
After being restricted to 15 games in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Lewis suffered a devastating ACL injury in 2024.
 
Twelve months later, in September last year, Lewis announced his revival on one of footy’s biggest stages, booting three goals in the first half of the Preliminary Final.
 
Hawthorn National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie said:
 
“While much had been made of Mitch’s future externally, we were always really focused on getting this deal done with his management given Mitch’s importance to our forward mix.
 
“There’s no doubt Mitch is a key part of what we are trying to achieve as a club, and at 27, he is arguably at the peak of his powers as a 199cm marking tall, which was on full show this past weekend.
 
“While his injury history has been well documented, it’s a credit to both Mitch and the club for getting him to this position of sustained performance as he nears 100 career games.
 
“In saying that, we are very confident he can continue to elevate his game even further in the years ahead, with Mitch expressing his strong desire to play a pivotal role in our forward line as we chase our next premiership.”
