Hawthorn defender Annabelle Embelton has been named to make her AFLW debut this Thursday night, just days after joining the club as a replacement player.

The 20-year-old is set to realise her AFLW dream when she runs out for the Hawks against the Demons in the blockbuster standalone contest at IKON Park.

Embelton has been a familiar face among the brown and gold this pre-season, having featured in three of the Hawks warm up games, before being officially added to the list last week.

The 179cm key defender spent the last three seasons with the Box Hill Hawks in the VFLW, which included eight appearances this year where she averaged18 disposals and four marks per game.

Hawthorn General Manager of AFLW Keegan Brooksby said:

“We’re excited for Annabelle to get her chance at AFLW level this Thursday night,” Brooksby said.

“Despite signing as a replacement player just days ago, we know what Annabelle brings to our team, with her toughness and competitiveness on full show this pre-season.

“It will be a special night for Annabelle and her family, and we’re really confident she can bring her strengths and play her role as we look to get the win over the Demons.”

Hawthorn will unveil its Round 1 team at 6.20pm on Wednesday ahead of the Thursday night clash.
