A timeline has been set for young gun Elli Symonds as she continues her rehabilitation from a foot injury.
The 19-year-old is expected to miss the next four to six weeks, as detailed by Hawthorn High Performance Manager Aaron Kellett below.
Ahead of the club's opening AFLW game under Thursday night lights at IKON Park, Hannah Looney (foot) and Mackenzie Eardley (Achilles) have also been added to the injury list.
Young pair Maya Dear and Grace Baba continue to progress in their recoveries from leg and ankle injuries, respectively.
Hannah Looney (Foot) - 1-2 weeks
"Hannah's just dealing with some plantar fasciitis, so some pain on the bottom of her foot. She's been functioning pretty well for the last few weeks, but levels of pain have probably got to the point now where we think we need to give her a bit of a chop-out. So, we're just regressing some of her training activities. We think this is going to be a relatively smooth transition, hopefully. We're thinking sort of one to two weeks."
Maya Dear (Leg) - 1-3 weeks
"Maya's just working her way back from some medial tibial stress. She's progressing really well through her protocols and her return to play plan. She's resumed some modified skills. We think she's anywhere between one and three weeks away from being able to be available to play football."
Mackenzie Eardley (Achilles) - 2-4 weeks
"Mack's just had a flare of the sheath around the Achilles tendon itself. These are notoriously painful and a bit difficult to get going. So, we're sort of mapping our way through a return to play plan at this point. She's functioning pretty well. We've got to work our way back from a loading perspective, from running and from football because she's been off the track for a little while now. We think that she's somewhere between two to four weeks away from being available to play AFLW."
Elli Symonds (Foot) - 4-6 weeks
"Elli's working her way back from post-season surgery last year to repair a stress fracture in her navicular, a bone in her foot. These have a very long timeline from a recovery perspective. She's back resuming her modified skills. She's building her fitness and her loading is progressing really well. We're going to take a relatively conservative approach, which we have done all the way through, given it's a recurrence of a previous injury she's had in her under-18s year. But she's going really well. We're really happy. We think she's somewhere between four and six weeks away from being available for AFLW."
Grace Baba (Ankle) - TBC
"Grace had an awkward landing incident, which we mentioned last week in our practice match against Sydney. She actually ruptured a ligament on the medial side of her ankle. We explored a bunch of avenues around the best path of action for the return to play for her. We ended up operating on that ankle to repair that ligament. The timeline's going to evolve as Grace starts to work through the early stages of her return to play. We'll update that as that starts to formalise. It's not going to be a short recovery, but we'll get her back in the club next week to start working through the next stage of her acute post-surgical protocols. We're looking forward to starting that."
