Hawthorn has farewelled Brett Ratten after departing the club for a role at Richmond as its Head of Coaching and Strategy.

Following an assistant coaching stint with the Hawks from 2013 – 2018, Ratten returned to the club at the end of the 2023 season as Head of Coaching Performance & Development.

Over the past three seasons, Ratten has helped mentor and develop the club’s coaches through the week and on game day, and most recently played a role in guiding Box Hill’s first-time coaches to a VFL premiership.

Executive General Manager of Football Rob McCartney said:

“In farewelling Ratts, we acknowledge he has been very transparent about wanting to take on a new opportunity in AFL and we fully support his decision.

“His experience, patience, and mentorship have left a lasting mark on this team of coaches.

“We are grateful for everything he has contributed to our club, and we wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
