Fresh from Calsher Dear's re-signing, fellow father-son Hawk Will McCabe has put pen to paper on a new deal, tying him to the club until at least the end of 2027.

After being drafted with Pick 19 in the 2023 National Draft, the 21-year-old broke through for his AFL debut earlier this season following two years developing his craft at Box Hill.

McCabe immediately displayed his potential at the elite level with a match-winning goal from the boundary in his debut game for Hawthorn in Round 6 against Port Adelaide.

Initially drafted as a defender, the 197cm South Australian product has also showcased his versatility as a forward and on the wing throughout his time at Hawthorn.

Going on to play a total of four AFL games this season, McCabe also furthered his development by playing a key role in Box Hill’s VFL premiership last month.

Hawthorn National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie said:

“Having broken through for his debut and playing several games this year, Will showed us all what he’s capable of at AFL level.

“For a 197cm tall, Will is incredibly versatile - he covers the ground well, has strong hands and is composed in front of goal - as demonstrated by his match-winner against the Power this year.

“With a taste of AFL footy, there’s no doubt he will be eager to put in a strong pre-season and continue elevating his game into 2027 and beyond.”
