Presenting Blast from the Past!

Over the month of September, we will be taking you on a trip down memory lane as we look back at various moments in Hawthorn history that have occurred on the same date.

Today we rewind back to 2012…

Read: A true rollercoaster

Following its 2008 premiership win, Hawthorn's pursuit of a return to that final Saturday in September in the years following is an interesting tale.

There was the infamous 2009 premiership hangover.

In 2010, the Hawks returned to September for a week, bowing out at the hands of Fremantle in an elimination final.

Then in 2011, it was the heartbreak of a three-point preliminary final loss to Collingwood.

The Hawks' 2012 prelim looked to be following a similar script.

A Graham Johncock goal at the 20-minute mark of the final term had put the Crows into the box seat.

Nervous minutes ensured.

But then Cyril and Buddy emerged, with the pair booting back-to-back goals in the matter of a minute.

The Hawks were through to their first grand final since 2008.
