Presenting Blast from the Past!
Over the month of September, we will be taking you on a trip down memory lane as we look back at various moments in Hawthorn history that have occurred on the same date.
Today we rewind back to 2013…
Ask anyone that was involved at Hawthorn at the time, the 2012 grand final loss hurt.
The Hawks entered the game as favourite, led by 19 points at quarter time and ultimately had five more scoring shots on the day than the Swans.
But it was not to be.
Alastair Clarkson’s side would get the sweet taste of revenge two years later in the 2014 grand final but, before that, they were also able to get one back on its modern rival just 12 months later.
The Hawks faced the Swans in a qualifying final with the game starting as all punters would have expected – a genuine grind.
Scores were all square at half-time.
But the second half was all the Hawks, booting 11 goals, eight behinds to the Swans’ 3.2.
Despite missing game-breakers Lance Franklin and Cyril Rioli, the Hawks had made a significant statement against the 2012 premiers on their pursuit of a return to premiership success.
