Changkuoth Jiath did not experience the ideal beginning to his career on an AFL list as injury curtailed the first half of his season to just a single VFL game.

But, when he made his return in Round 13 against Richmond VFL, Jiath did not look back and played in every game to close out the season.

With a desire to run both offensively and defensively, the 19-year old was employed in a variety of roles throughout the season.

But it was in defence where he settled in the closing stages of 2018.

It was there that the Next Generation Academy graduate shone, with his tackling intent quickly becoming alight for coaches, teammates and fans.

Jiath averaged four tackles per game throughout Box Hill’s finals series and was one of four first-year Hawks to become a VFL premiership player by the end of the year.
