The Hawks are set to receive a boost ahead of their Round 7 clash with Melbourne, with Grant Birchall ready to return to the line up after a month on the sidelines.

Birchall fractured his jaw during the Hawks’ Round 2 loss against Adelaide, and underwent surgery the following day.

According to Elite Performance Manager Andrew Russell, the seasoned defender will likely make his awaited return this weekend.

“[Birchall] can’t wait to get out there with the boys,” says Russell.

“He’s certainly available, and he will be a good chance to be selected I would think.”

The news isn’t as good for young defender Teia Miles, who injured his knee in a tackle during Box Hill’s Round 3 win over Williamstown.

“Unfortunately for Tay, he’s hurt the medial ligament in his knee,” says Russell.

“He’s going to miss a bit of footy, probably the next four to six weeks.”
