Hawthorn star Lance Franklin has won the 2013 Goal of the Year competition.

Franklin's brilliant goal from the Round 3 win over Collingwood was one of three finalists for the 2013 Goal of the Year, but was ultimately chosen as the winner by football fans, beating a Gary Ablett ripper from the boundary in Geelong and Carlton utility Andrew Walker's goal from beyond 50 after he took four running bounced from half back to half forward against St Kilda in Round 7.

The build up to Franklin's goal started with a long kick from full back from Brent Guerra that was marked by Ben Stratton in the centre square. He played on and was caught but released a handball to Franklin who jumped over Stratton and Collingwood's Sam Dwyer and launched a 65m bomb from the middle of the MCG for one of the goals of the year.

As the winner, Franklin receives $10,000 from Goal of the Year sponsor, British Paints.
