CEO Justin Reeves has provided the following update to Hawthorn members...

Hi everyone,

I said last week that as is the way in football, a lot can happen in a week. Well in the current environment it seems a lot can happen in a day, let alone a week!

Today the AFL confirmed we will be relocating to Sydney for the next two weeks and the next three rounds of the 2020 season. We fly to Sydney to face GWS on Sunday as planned and will then face Collingwood next Friday and then Melbourne the following Sunday 19 July.

After this block of games, we are a chance to remain on the road, however we have confirmation from the AFL that we will be on the road for no longer than 32 days. At the completion of this block of games decisions will be made on the next iteration of the fixture, considering any amendments to border restrictions and how Victoria is faring in its battle with Covid-19.

Club CEOs will be travelling into each of their respective hubs and I will make the trip to Sydney this weekend with the team. I will stay with the team for the first part of our maximum 32-day road trip.

The welfare of our people obviously remains our number one priority. There is certainly a lot of logistics to work through for our football department, players and staff and we will be busy ensuring everything is set up for a smooth transition into our next block of games in Sydney.

While a relocation comes with its challenges, it also brings with it some great opportunities. We feel fortunate to be able to continue playing the game we love and to have some clarity on our next two weeks. We are excited by the challenge ahead of us and as we have done so far in 2020, we will continue to ride the bumps with a grin.

We are incredibly excited that this Sunday will also see us play in front of a small number of Hawks members for the first time in season 2020. While we would have loved the opportunity for more of our family to join us in the stands, we still must acknowledge that this is a step in the right direction and I know our players are incredibly excited to once again see the brown and gold army in the stands.

As always, I thank you for your ongoing loyalty and support. Season 2020 continues to throw many things our way, but up to date we have taken them all in our stride, and that is very much due to the love and support we feel from each and every one of you, our Hawthorn members.

Fingers crossed we can continue our form from last week (well the first three quarters anyway) into this Sunday’s clash with the Giants. I will be sure to touch base with you all again next week and keep you all up to date with how things are faring from our temporary abode in Sydney.

Go Hawks!

Reevesy
