Hawthorn Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd says Jack Scrimshaw will be unavailable for selection this week.

Lewis (hamstring) and Scrimshaw (ankle) were both injured within moments of each other in the opening minutes of the third quarter against the Giants on Sunday night.

While Lewis was able to return to the field, Scrimshaw played no further part in the Hawks loss.

Boyd said the club was still awaiting scans which would help to ascertain the extent of the duo's stints on the sidelines.

"At this stage, with the short turnaround being only a five-day break, Jack won't be available to play this weekend," Boyd said.

"Mitch is in a similar boat to Jack in that we've got that short turnaround so he won't be able to play this week.

"We will similarly have to wait to see scans to get more information on what's going on through that hamstring and then re-assess the way forward."

In more positive news for the club, Boyd says Daniel Howe is starting to make some promising progression in his recovery from foot surgery.

"Howie has obviously been building up his running over the past four weeks.

"We've now started to intro some ballwork so I think he has had three sessions back in the ball program now which is a really positive sign.

"We're just slowly building up his training loads so that he is able to get to a level that he is going to be able to sustain that level that is required for games.

"So, it's looking positive for Howie at the moment, we'll just continue to progress him over the next few weeks and then assess where we think he might be able to start looking at some gameplay."

To continue the good news, Boyd said Jarman Impey is also closing in on his return as he eyes off the scratch matches in the coming weeks.

"Jars has been back in the skills program for about six weeks now, with a large portion of that being in full skills and full contact, so he is doing what he is required to do.

"The next opportunity will be to start looking for him to get some gameplay with some of our scrimmages that we will have over the next couple of the weeks.

"In the next week or so, we will be looking for Jarman to be doing some match practice."
