Hawthorn has confirmed young defender Changkuoth Jiath was upgraded to the senior list last week following Ricky Henderson’s placement on the long-term injury list.

Jiath has been performing strongly in the club’s recent scrimmage matches, playing predominantly on the half-back line.

Selected as a Category B rookie in 2017, the 21-year-old played two senior games for the Hawks last year, where he averaged 14.5 disposals and 2.5 tackles.

Henderson sustained a knee injury during the club’s Round 7 loss to Melbourne, with scans revealing a slight tear in his meniscus.

The midfielder is set to miss the next five weeks.

The AFL recently changed the rookie upgrade rule whereby allowing a player to be placed on the long-term injury list if they are set to miss six games instead of six weeks given the condensed 2020 season.
