The Hawks will have a season-high six changes when they take on Port Adelaide on Saturday.

One of the incoming sextet is Michael Hartley, who will make his brown and gold debut.

The defender joined the Hawks in late 2019. After starting his AFL journey with Collingwood, he moved to Essendon ahead of the 2016 season, where he registered 44 games over four years.

GM-Football Graham Wright says it’s fantastic to see Hartley’s hard work pay off.

“He’s come into our system and worked extremely hard to learn the Hawthorn way.

“He’s got fantastic energy, and probably one of the loudest voices in the league, so we’re confident he’ll offer plenty of talk and leadership in the backline.”

“We’re really looking forward to seeing Harts get another opportunity at AFL level this weekend.”

Dan Howe is another good news story, with the midfielder named for his first game this year, having overcome a plantar fascia injury.

He will be joined by James Cousins, who also plays his first game for the year, Jonathon Patton, who returns from a hamstring injury, and Tom Scully, who was managed in Round 12.

The Hawks will be without James Sicily (ACL), Jaeger O’Meara (hand), James Frawley (dislocated thumb), Jack Gunston (back soreness), Conor Nash (omitted), and Harry Morrison (omitted).

The Hawks have a big challenge ahead of them, taking on the ladder-leaders Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. The clash will take place at 4.35pm AEST on Saturday 21 August.
