Hawks young gun Will Day has finished fifth in the voting for the 2020 Rising Star award after a stunning debut season in the brown and gold.

Fremantle's Caleb Serong took out the award, polling 48 of a possible 50 votes, with Sun Noah Anderson (39 votes), Saint Max King (28) and Sun Izak Rankine (16) ahead of Day who polled 12 votes.

Lion Brandon Starcevich (six votes) and Dee Kysaiah Pickett (one) were the only other players to receive votes.

Coming across from South Australia after the Hawks selected him with Pick 13 in last year's national draft, Day had an outstanding year, playing predominantly across the half-back line.

He finished the season with 11 senior games to his name after debuting in Round 6 against Collingwood in Sydney.

The 19-year-old showed a composure and skill level well beyond his years, with his coaches consistently commending his cool head under pressure.

Day recorded impressive averages of 15.6 disposals, 4.4 marks, 2.6 rebound 50s and 1.4 inside 50s.

His 4.8 intercept possessions per game also ranked fifth league-wide for players 20 years old or younger, and number one for first-year players.
