Will this week be the week we see the return of Jack Gunston?

Going under the knife for back surgery in mid-December, it would be the reigning Peter Crimmins Medallist's first appearance since his stellar 2020 campaign.

The three-time premiership Hawk would be a massive boost to the side as it looks to record consecutive wins for the first time this season.

Earlier this week, Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd alluded to Gunston being in the selection window following a strong training block.

"Jack had a really good week of training last week," Boyd said.

"We're really happy with his progression to this point.

"What this week looks like is he'll full train, as he has for the last couple of weeks, then we'll make an assessment later in the week to see where he's at in relation to playing."

In addition to Gunston, there is another forward whose name is a certainty to be considered at match committee this week.

Why Clarko would suggest a week is a long time in footy

Currently enjoying a purple patch of form, Emerson Jeka has booted 19 goals in his last four appearances with Box Hill.

As well as proving a force in front of goal, Box Hill Coach Sam Mitchell has also been impressed by the 19-year-old's ability to impact further up the ground.

"Most pleasing in his game was his ability to push up between the arcs which enabled him to get 20 possessions as well as a handful of score assists," Mitchell said of his performance in the side's win over the Northern Bullants on the weekend.

"His field kicking was also a highlight."

Among others that have caught Mitchell's eye recently at reserves level are Damon Greaves and Ned Reeves.

Mitchell explained Greaves had made strides in the defensive side of his game in recent weeks.

"He made some excellent goal-saving acts and he has grown into his more defensive role in recent weeks.

"He is also appearing ready for AFL level when his chance arises."

Reeves also continues to be a dominant force in his ruck battles week to week, having amassed 95 hit-outs over the opening fortnight of the VFL season.

The team to take on St Kilda will be announced on Friday at 6.20pm AEST.
